Aimrite Mack1000 Year Long Spanish Mackerel Comp 2024/2025

This year we are excited to announce we are accepting weighed and un-weighed entries for the Aimrite Mack1000 competition. 

As well as the typical weight-based competition for heaviest Spanish mackerel we will be accepting unweighed entries in an Instagram based judges choice Spanish mackerel competition. All you have to do is upload a picture and follow the entry requirements below and you are in the running to win!

It is important that all entries are supported by a public post tagging our sponsors so please follow the entry requirements carefully.

 

How to Enter an Un-Weighed Fish:

  1. No competition sign-up required (but you must be a financial member)
  2. Post a picture of your mackerel publicly on Instagram and tell us about your catch!

How to Enter a Weighed Fish:

  1. Sign up for the Mack1000 at waunderseaclub.tidyhq.com/member/memberships at least 7 days prior to shooting your mackerel. You must also be a WAUC financial member. 
  1. OPTION 1 Preferred: Post a picture of your mackerel publicly on Instagram and tell us about your catch!

RULES:

 

To sign up for the Mack1000 go to memberships page and buy a Mack1000 membership.

 

1. Competition runs for the full length of the financial year, starting on the 1st of July and concluding on 30th June the following year. Entry is $30 for club members and $60 for non-members.

 

2. Sign-on can occur at any time during competition period. Only fish shot and entered 7 days or more after sign-on will be accepted.

Ie. You MUST officially join the competition first, wait 7 days, and only then are you eligible to shoot and enter a fish.

 

3. The Spanish Mackerel (Scomberomorus commerson) must be speared in Australian waters.

 

4. Divers must be breath-hold spearfishing and fully submerged at time of capture. No breathing aid other than a snorkel is permitted.

 

5. Fish capture must be unassisted from other divers. Types of assistance from a second diver that would deem a fish ineligible for entry would include (but not limited to) the placing of a second shot, handling of the rig line, passing a loaded gun, handling of the fish before it has been subdued. Any other unforeseen circumstances that might hinder a fish's credibility outside of the above-mentioned guideline, please note conditions on submission of fish and competition organisers will accept or deny entry on a case by case basis.

 

6. All speared fish to be weighed whole. Fish that may have already been gutted prior to weighing will still be accepted, albeit at the lower weight.

 

7. Fish capture must be unassisted from other divers. Types of assistance from a second diver that would deem a fish ineligible for entry would include (but not limited to) the placing of a second shot, handling of the rig line, passing a loaded gun, handling of the fish before it has been subdued. Any other unforeseen circumstances that might hinder a fish's credibility outside of the above-mentioned guideline, please note conditions on submission of fish and competition organisers will accept or deny entry on a case by case basis.

 

8. Minimum Spanish Mackerel minimum entry weight is 10kg.

 

9. As well as being photographed, the weighing process should be video recorded and a copy kept for future verification. Whilst a video submission is not mandatory for the fish's entry into the competition, should the fish's legitimacy be questioned by competition organisers, a video review may be required. This can be shared via a private link

 

10. One prize only per person in each section. The mystery weight/judges choice prize is open only to those who have not won a prize in any of the other categories.

 

11. All photographs will become the property of WA Undersea Club Inc.

 

12. One speared fish per entry form.

 

13. The organisers reserve the right to question any witness, examine the scales used for weighing, or refuse any incomplete or suspect applications. Organisers have final say on prize allocation.

 

14. Entries must be posted to social media exactly as detailed in the how to enter section.

 

 

Mackerel 1000 Competition Release Agreement

 

1. I agree that it is my own responsibility that I am physically fit and qualified for engaging in the Mack1000 Spearfishing competition.

 

2. I realize that such diving and spearfishing activities inherently have dangers to my person from or caused by currents, sea conditions, sharks and other marine creatures, the activity of other people in boats and in the water and their equipment.

 

3. I realise that the activity of breath hold diving (known as freediving) involves dangers that can include “shallow water black out” if not conducted with caution and due care on my part. I have at least a general understanding of the term “shallow water blackout” and understand the other risks associated with breath hold diving .

 

4. I understand that it is a best practice to conduct freedive spearfishing whilst towing a float with flag, whistle, and mirror.

 

5. For the consideration of the facilities, equipment, and services and advice provided by you, I, for myself, my executors, administrators and assigns, and for the child (if applicable) herby absolutely release and discharge the, it’s individual members, their agents, appointees and assigns, from and against all claims whatsoever arising out of the death, personal injury loss of or damage to personal property, that I or the child (if applicable), may suffer or sustain in any way connected with the above mentioned spearfishing competition, and I hereby indemnify and agree to keep indemnified West Australian Undersea Club It’s member clubs, and it’s individual members, their agents, all appointees and assigns against all claims whatsoever by me or the child or by any person claiming through me, or through the child on my behalf, in any way arising, and this discharge may be pleaded in bar to any such claim.

 

6. The fish I spear remain in my possession. I am responsible for adhering to the size limits, bag limits and other restrictions placed on my catch under government legislation.

 

7. I have read the competition’s rules and agree to abide by them.

 

8. I have read the above and understand its meaning and effect and declare that I am over 18 years of age.
